Discover ways to help others through
our church’s local and global outreach.
We give generously to help others.
The First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon allocates 11% of our annual budget to Local, State,
National and International charities and not-for-profit organizations.
We do this to help people directly as well as organizations that bring aid to others.
Some of the trusted charities and not-for-profit organizations we support:
Sharing God’s love with those who need it most.
The Mt Vernon Ministerial Association sponsors a ministry to the men and women in the Posey County Jail, providing prayer and Bible Study to all that are interested. Pat Bartlet (812 459-6439) leads the outreach to women.

Help us fight hunger in our community.
🍎 Monthly Food Drive
Each month, we collect a specific food item for the local food pantry. Bring your items to church.
🦃 Thanksgiving Food Support
In November, we collect donations to purchase grocery gift cards for local families in need. These cards help them enjoy a warm, festive meal.
🎄 Christmas Angels Program
In December, we receive names of children in need. Choose a child’s name from our Angel Tree in the lobby.
• Buy a gift (or two!) based on their needs
• Wrap your gifts and return them to church
All gifts go to families through the Ministerial Association’s Christmas Assistance Program.
Every month the local food pantry will provide us with a food item that they need to replenish their shelves. The congregation all pitch in and bring the item(s) to the church where someone will transport the monthly collection to the food pantry.
A few weeks prior to Thanksgining, the church provides support to local families through grocery stores. This provides much needed food for a Thanksgiving meal.
Every December, the Christmas Assistance Program, operated through the local Ministerial Association, provides the church with the first names of needy children, along with their clothing and other needs. Their names and needs are placed on a Christmas tree written on paper cutout angel. The congregation picks as many angels as they want and brings their purchases wrapped in Christmas paper. The gifts are delivered to the local Ministerial Association for their distribution.
Whether it’s giving, praying, visiting, or wrapping a gift — every small act matters.
