At First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon, we are dedicated to nurturing the spiritual growth of our youth through age-appropriate programs that engage, educate, and inspire. Our Youth Ministry caters to children and young adults aged 2 to 18, offering tailored curricula and activities that align with their developmental stages.

Curriculum Overview

Our teaching is centered around “THE STORY: Getting to the Heart of God’s Story” by Randy
Frazee and Max Lucado. This condensed, chronological overview of the Bible ensures that the
same scriptural references explored in Children’s Church are concurrently studied in Adult Worship,
fostering a unified learning experience for families.

Program Schedule

Time: Sundays
10:15 AM: General Assembly
10:30 AM: Dismissal to Small Group Teaching in the Education Wing
Duration: 1 hour 

Preschool & Kindergarten

(Ages 2-6)

Activities Include:

  • Storytime
  • Structured play
  • Arts and crafts
  • Learning simple prayers
  • Show and tell sessions to enhance speaking and listening skills

Primary Age Students

(Ages 7-10)

Activities Include:

  • Creating plays and art projects inspired by Bible stories and characters
  • Writing original dramas
  • Composing personal prayers

Preteens & Teens

(Ages 11-18)

Activities Include:

  • in-depth study of scripture
  • Exploration of various Christian creeds and catechisms
  • Engagement in creative outlets tailored to their interests and concerns
  • Open forums led by church elders, encouraging honest questions and discussions, especially for high school seniors and young adults in college or vocational schools

Confirmation Classes

In alignment with our belief in a self-governing community of believers who learn and worship together, we offer a six-week Confirmation class. This program is designed for teens and young adults choosing to become members of our congregation and is conducted during regular Sunday school hours.

Qualified Leadership

Our congregation is blessed with certified teachers who are highly qualified to provide Christian education lessons and activities. Utilizing diverse methods such as music, art, drama, technology, storytelling, and play, we aim to create an engaging and enriching environment for all participants
